Fully vaccinated travelers can now visit the land of rising sun, Arunachal Pradesh. Read on to know about the new COVID-19 SOPs.

In an attempt to kickstart tourism in Arunachal Pradesh, the administration has announced the opening of its borders for travelers.

According to a notification issued by the Arunachal Pradesh government, travelers who have received two doses of the authorized COVID-19 vaccination will be permitted to enter the state.

There has also been an order passed that the issuing of Inner Line Permit (ILP)/ Protected Area Permit and/or Restricted Area Permit will resume with immediate effect under current laws and regulations.

Inner Line Permit is an official travel pass provided to the Indian nationals, who wish to visit restricted/protected regions or states such as Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Mizoram for a short length of time.

Similarly, the Foreigner (Protected area) Act requires foreign travelers to get a Protected Area Permit (PAP) before visiting specified areas of India, including Arunachal Pradesh.

According to a report published in TOI, this decision would benefit hoteliers, homestays, tour & cab operators, and other tourism-related stakeholders who have been suffering economic hardships as a result of the pandemic.

The state administration also issued instructions to lift the ban on granting Protected Area Permits and Inner Line Permits for travelers, claiming that the COVID-19 situation in the region is under strict surveillance.

In the meanwhile, the government is working to update the COVID-19 SOPs for travelers to maintain COVID-appropriate behavior that includes wearing masks and maintaining social distance.

As of now, every traveler visiting Arunachal Pradesh will have to produce a COVID negative report no longer than 72 hours before departure (irrespective of the vaccination status). The night curfew is still in place, from 7 PM to 5 AM, till further notice.
