Discover

Why Mauritius

  • Lagoons for every kind of beach day

A coral reef encircles most of the island, so the water inside is calm and clear — ideal for snorkelling, glass-bottom boats and first-time divers.

  • Close, easy and visa-free

Nonstop flights from Mumbai and Bengaluru, and free entry on arrival, make it one of the simplest faraway-feeling holidays to plan.

  • Feels familiar, yet far away

Most Mauritians have Indian roots: Divali is a public holiday, Hindi and Bhojpuri are widely understood, and vegetarian food is everywhere.

A first visit: 6 nights

Recommended length: 6–8 nights

  1. North coast (Grand Baie)3 nights
  2. South-west (Le Morne)3 nights

Many travellers stay at one resort and take day trips — the island is about two hours from end to end.

Choose the right season

When to go

October is the driest month, and October to December and April are the sweet spots. January to March is hot, humid and the wettest stretch, with the highest cyclone risk.

Practical tips for Mauritius
  • Between January and March, choose a resort with plenty to do indoors in case of rain.
  • Book boat trips only with operators licensed by the Ministry of Tourism, with life jackets on board.
  • Wear reef shoes in the lagoon — coral and sea urchins are sharp.
  • Driving is on the left, as in India, if you’d like to hire a car.
